How to Apply Eye Glitter
Glitter eyes are a party and festival classic. Here's how to apply eye glitter safely, so it stays sharp, doesn't crease and is gentle on your eyes.
What You'll Need
- Ultra fine or fine cosmetic glitter only
- An eyeshadow primer or concealer
- A cosmetic glitter glue designed for use around the eyes
- A flat or detail brush
How to Apply Eye Glitter: Step by Step
- Prime your eyelids. Start with a clean, dry lid and apply primer or concealer for a smooth base.
- Apply glitter glue. Dab a small amount onto your eyelid or inner corner. Aloe vera gel isn't strong enough for eyelids, so use a proper glitter glue.
- Tap on the glitter. Press glitter onto the glue with a flat brush. A slightly damp detail brush helps with precise lines.
- Build intensity. Add a second thin layer if you want more sparkle.
- Let it set. Keep your eyes open and avoid blinking too much for a few seconds so it doesn't crease.
Eye Glitter Looks to Try
- Inner corner sparkle: a tiny dot of fine glitter to brighten your eyes
- Full glitter lid: one shade across the whole lid
- Glitter liner: a sharp line of fine glitter along the lash line
Eye Glitter Safety
- Only use ultra fine or fine cosmetic glitter near the eyes. Never use medium, chunky, super chunky or craft glitter.
- Patch test any new glue first.
- If glitter gets in your eye, don't rub. Rinse gently with clean water.
Remove eye glitter gently with an oil-based makeup remover. See our glitter removal guide.
